27 May 2012: How can we work together better?

In the wake of the Informa Social Media in Healthcare conference last week, @HughStephens is moderating this week's chat to discuss how we can better work together and collaborate.

The #smhealthcare conference had some really great research and thoughts presented. Check out the Storify summaries here:

But one big question remains. We had a great range of people at the conference and participating from afar, but how can we better work together?

The chat will explore how HCSMANZ can better connect participants on a national basis, beyond just a weekly twitter chat.

The chat will be at 2030 AEST on Sunday 27 May. Check your local time here.

Q1: What information would you like to find out from the healthcare social media / healthcare social media Aus & NZ community?

Q2: How would you like to see the community working together?

Q2a: Should there be another channel that we use, beyond Twitter?

Q3: If #hcsmanz was to put together some events for the community to get together, what would you like them to be like?

Never participated in a chat? Check out this basic description about how you can join - or tweet with the hashtag #hcsmanz and ask!

Will Web20 kill or enhance face to face health events?

The #hcsmanz chat topic was inspired by a side chat with #hcsmanz participant @bronwynah.

This week I was feeling frustrated about the time delay hearing back from some health conference organisers that I have put in an abstract for. I then looked at another health conference happening at the end of the year and noticed the submission data to for conference abstracts had pasted months ago.

I was promoted to tweet “The big gap between abstract submission & holding a health confs is relevancy risk threatening the conf industry, they don't see.”

@bronwynah tweeting back and we had a quite spontaneous but asynchronous twitter dialogue over the next few hours .

This is the exchange storfied sfy.co/yRN As you can we see the future differently.

I’m hoping to expand the discussion with rest of #hcsmanz community. (Does twitter make you narcissistic? some asked)

I think that face to health conferences are going to change because of a number of Web20 trends and that’s a good thing.

I think @bronwynah likes face to face health events more than do and is not so sure about the future trends noting that nothing much has yet changed in tweet this afternoon.

There are benefits of going to face to face conferences. Will new web20 technology enhance the face the face experience of health conferences or will they devour conferences?

Join us with your ideas?

Come along with with your thoughts about why do you go to conferences and why you use Web2.0?

Help us chart our way through near future trends.

This week’s chat will be facilitated by @lewismal

Mothers Day TweetChat topic: Dr Google and Women’s health: helpful or harmful?

It’s Mothers Day so lets talk about women’s health in the social media healthcare space. Here’s the inspiration: the Sunherald recently ran a story about some of the dangers of using google to self-diagnose, yet we all do it at one time or another. At the very least we use google to search for information about health topics. In what situations is self-diagnosis on the internet helpful/harmful? Are women using the social media and the internet differently to men for healthcare information?

T1: How are women using the internet for healthcare information?
T2: How is it helpful/harmful?
T3: Where are the opportunities of innovation?
T4: What are your fave women health sites?

HCSMANZ This week's topic Digital Strategies for Healthcare Organisations

Note the new time 8:30pm AEST - After consultation it has been decided that the #hcsmanz chat will be 30 mins latter from now on.

Over the past years we've seen a rapid change in the communication landscape. Previously people heavily relied on face to face time, yet with the advent of the participatory internet associated with the use of Social Media technologies, we have seen a shift in how people communicate.

Last week we took a look at how Social Media was being used (if at all) by Australian Healthcare Organisations.

This week, we look at the steps required to forming, Digital Strategies for Healthcare Organisations. In the hope that by developing an appropriate strategy previous barriers, and risks can be mitigated.

HCSMANZ This week topic this week is Twitter Best practices:

ACHSM issues challenge: "Leading the Social Media revolution in healthcare"

There was spirited discussion during our last #hcsmanz chat on an important issue:

How can the #hcsmanz community contribute?

This is an exciting opportunity for the #hcsmanz community to really make a difference.

Who's up to the challenge?
